The Pousada, named after Portugal's first saint, is a very popular Pousada and competes with the Pousada Dom Dinis at Vila Nova de Cerveira only 10 miles away. They are, however, very different; the Pousada de Sao Teotonio is relatively modern and has tremendous river views from it's reception rooms and bedrooms. Valenca is an old fortified town, standing across the River Minho from Spain and withstood several sieges. Nowadays the town is very popular with Spanish visitors where they are welcomed rather than being fired on! The Pousada is situated inside the inner fort but was constructed in 1962 from local granite and has 18 rooms, all with en-suite bathrooms and air conditioning.
The local menu includes shredded green cabbage soup, codfish “au gratin” with onions and mayonnaise, chunks of pork loin with spicy sausage and boiled pears in red wine.
Valenca is on the Portuguese bank of the River Minho in the far North of Portugal. Follow the coastal IC 1 north out of Viano do Castelo, through Vila Nova de Cerveira, to Valenca. The Pousada is in the town fortress overlooking the bridge over the river.
Situated in the prestigious Monte Lemos area of Praia da Luz, Casa Branca and Casa Irmao are two of fourteen townhouses which are built in a crescent around a pool and set in magnificent gardens. These 2 bedroom / 1 bathroom houses are only 10 minutes walk to the beach and less than that to the restaurants and shops of Praia da Luz. These are great properties for family holidays.
