The Pousada at Sao Bras de Alportel was the first Pousada to be purpose built in the Algarve in the early 1940s and was only the second in the whole of Portugal. It is set in a rural position, overlooking the town of Sao Bras de Alportel and is ideal for those looking for peace and quiet, although it is only about 30 minutes drive from the Algarve coast and Faro airport. East of Sao Bras is the town of Loule where the extensive Saturday market is a must for shoppers. The town is renowned for pottery, leather and copperware and it is a pleasant town to walk around. Twenty kilometres to the south-east is the magnificent town of Tavira. Set at the mouth of the River Gilao, the original houses line both banks of the river which is spanned by several bridges. Tavira used to be the centre of the tuna fishing industry but the shoals of fish have moved further out to sea and the catches have declined. Twenty five kilometres to the south-west of Sao Bras is Vilamoura which is a lively coastal resort with a large marina surrounded by shops, cafes and bars: this is a favourite place for locals and visitors alike to walk around in the evening. There is also a casino and some of the Algarve's fine golf courses are close.
The Pousada is fairly easy to find. It is 30 kms north of Faro and the Pousada can be found by leaving Sao Bras de Alportel on the Lisbon road and turning right onto a small road after about 2 kms.
Situated in the prestigious Monte Lemos area of Praia da Luz, Casa Branca and Casa Irmao are two of fourteen townhouses which are built in a crescent around a pool and set in magnificent gardens. These 2 bedroom / 1 bathroom houses are only 10 minutes walk to the beach and less than that to the restaurants and shops of Praia da Luz. These are great properties for family holidays.
