With only 9 bedrooms, the Pousada do Castelo needs to be booked very early, especially in summer as the town is very popular with visitors. Situated within the walled village of Obidos, the castle looks over the local countryside, which once was the sea until the bay silted up and was turned into farmland ; the sea is now approximately 6 km from the castle at Foz de Arelho.
The town is famous for it's narrow cobbled streets, steps paved with stone and traditional white houses with blue trim.
The old village walls provide an interesting, if awkward, walk. The golf course of Praia D'el Rey is close by and golfers will enjoy the links golf.
Favourites on the menu include Scallop shells with apple and watercress, fried cod with potatoes and onions, roast pork with mashed cauliflower and rich egg and sugar rolls.
