 Dom Joao is a comfortable, well-established Beach Resort, that has a superb location on Alvor's Tres Irmaos Beach which stretches for several kilometres. The nearby river estuary of Alvor harbours one of Portugal's most valued bird sanctuaries.
The Four Star Resort offers several different kinds of accommodation. Choose from the Dom Joao II Hotel, the Alvor Atlantico Suite Hotel or the Dom Joao village where the 1, 2 and 3 bedroom villas are situated.
 Most of the rooms, suites and villas have direct sea views and balconies, others have land views. All rooms are equipped with air conditioning, satellite TV featuring some English speaking channels, direct dial telephone, hairdryer, radio and a safety deposit box for which a small local charge is made. All rooms in the Alvor Atlantico Suite Hotel also have kitchenettes.
There are several bars, restaurants and snack bars to choose  from in the Dom Joao Village offering a choice of Portuguese and International food and drinks. Entertainment ranging from live music to Portuguese Fado evenings and displays of traditional local Algarvian Folk Dancing is provided. The supervised Kid's Club for children aged 4 to 12 is run from the Dom Joao Resort with children from the nearby Alvor Praia and Delfim Hotels coming over to join in the fun. There are also 2 unsupervised playgrounds for children and Internet access is available.
The Dom Joao Village has a total of 5 swimming pools. There are 2 large outdoor seawater pools, one of which is heated in  winter. Two pools are available for children to use and the fifth pool, which is indoors, is also heated. Further leisure facilities include a gymnasium, sauna, Turkish bath and mini golf. There is giant floor chess, a snooker table, table tennis and, at the nearby Alvor Praia and Delfim Hotels there are tennis courts. During the summer months of June to September, nautical sports can be enjoyed at the centre on the beach and for golfers, a driving range and putting green is available at the Delphim Hotel and a drive of around 15 km from the hotel will  bring you to Pestana Carvoeiro Golf with the spectacular Gramacho and Pinta courses and the David Leadbetter academy. Both golf courses are available to play on the special “Unlimited Golf” programme. Sports tournaments and historical walks are also organised. Other services are available such as a hairdresser, small shops and, on request, a baby sitting service. A courtesy bus travels into Portimao twice a day.
The Pestana Dom Joao Resort is in an unenviable location right on the beach and has all the ingredients whether you just want to relax or be more energetic.
