 The Pousada de Mesao Frio is situated in the heart of the Douro wine growing region and, indeed, stands in the middle of 27 hectares of vineyard and overlooks the River Douro. The Pousada is a converted 18th century manor house which fell into disrepair after the death of the first  owner in 1916. It was 1962 before the house bought when it was completely restored. Solar da Rede opened as a pousada in the late 1990s.
 The area is agricultural with wine making the main occupation. The famous product of this region is, of course, Port and it is not far to Vila Nova de Gaia and the Port Houses. Vinho Verde is produced in this area and the red wines from this locality are worthy of your attention also.  The old wine tasting room is still there in the cellars of the pousada. This would have been where the wines would have been tasted when this was a working Quinta.
There are good views of the vineyard from the swimming pool terrace and there are interesting walks to experience in the area. There are a variety of activities to enjoy including golf, tennis, fishing and river cruises. This is one of the very pousadas with a helipad, for those of you lucky enough to travel this way.
 The pousada restaurant serves a selection of dishes such as grilled spicy sausages, trout stuffed with smoked ham, fried kid with mint sauce and a traditional egg sweet, all typical of the high standard of food in the Douro region
The pousada is just through Mesao Frio on the road to Peso da Regua.
