Located in the medieval walled town of Conde de Ourem, this Pousada lies in a area of some historical importance, most notably it is situated only a few kilometres from Fatima, one of the main pilgrimage sites in Europe.

In 1917, on the 13^th of May, three peasant children saw a vision of the Virgin Mary in an oak tree after a bright light in the sky.  The vision appeared over a period of five months, on the 13^th day of each month until the last apparition on 13^th October.  Thousands of visitors now visit the site each year and on the 13^th of May and the 13^th of October the vision is celebrated with singing and a candlelit procession.  The tombs of two of the children who saw the vision lie within the huge Basilica, the third child, Lucia, was visited in 2000 by Pope John Paul II on his third and final visit to Fatima when she was 93.

To the east of Ourem is Tomar, a world heritage site and location of the Convento do Cristo (convent of Christ).  Founded in 1162 it was the headquarters of The Knights Templar and contains a 16 sided chapel based on the design of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem.

The town of Ourem itself is steeped in history.  The fourth Conde (Count) was the illegitimate son of D. Joao I, his tomb lies within the church.  Queen Mecia Lopez, wife of King Sancho II, is also reputed to have been held hostage here when captured by local barons.  The town's castle was destroyed by Napoleon's troops but has undergone some renovation.  The Pousada was originally a group of medieval houses but has been carefully restored to include all modern facilities.  It offers magnificent views of the Seica River valley and a glimpse of the Shine of Fatima.  Local dishes can be savoured in the restaurant and include codfish soup, fried rabbit with cabbage, stewed bass in a pastry shell and pumpkin and walnut desert.

The pousada is quite easy to find lying within the town walls of Ourem.
