 The Pousada de Murtosa / Torreira is located in an area of outstanding natural beauty overlooking the quiet lagoon waters of the River Aveiro tributary. The Pousada is built on a strip of land connecting Murtosa to the nearby beaches of S. Jacinto. Surrounded by water, it is ideally placed for bird watching, fishing and water sports.
 From the village of S. Jacinto, a ferry can be taken be to the town of Aveiro. A onetime port, the entrance to Aveiro is now largely silted but boats still moor along the river that runs through the town. The town also has classical architecture in the painted houses overlooking the river. Also  found in the inland waterways, are the traditional “Moliceiros”. These distinctive boats have high, brightly painted bows and sterns and are used to carry seaweed to fertilise the riverside fields.
 South of Aveiro, near Ilhavo are the porcelain works of Vista Alegre; this area is known for it's ceramics and many examples of the blue glazed tiles, “Azulejos”, can be found here. Further south is the lively  coastal resort town of Figueira da Foz but for those preferring more seclusion, there are many smaller, quieter beaches in the area.
 The Pousada's position on the edge of the lagoon, lends itself to a peaceful evening sitting on the terrace watching the local fisherman at work. The restaurant specialises in local cuisine such as mussels on a skewer, eel stew, bean stew and egg pudding.
From Aveiro, take the EN 327 going north. Follow the signs to Torreira and then towards S. Jacinto - the Pousada is off to the left on the lagoon side.
