Evora is a superb fortified town, full of history and the capital of the Alentejo. Evora is classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The town has an old established Jesuit university and once was the centre of court life around the 15th century, when some really magnificent buildings and palaces were built. Situated in the centre of Evora, by the ruins of the Roman Temple of Diana, the Pousada dos Loios was originally a convent dating back to 1491. it was sympathetically restored and opened as a Pousada in the 60's and still retains the cloisters, which are now part of the dining room. Many of the original painted walls and ceilings are still present. There are 31 rooms and 1 suite and all are air conditioned.
Local specialities on the menu include stuffed mushrooms, fish soup with mint, lamb stew with pennyroyal and local egg cakes.
Situated in the prestigious Monte Lemos area of Praia da Luz, Casa Branca and Casa Irmao are two of fourteen townhouses which are built in a crescent around a pool and set in magnificent gardens. These 2 bedroom / 1 bathroom houses are only 10 minutes walk to the beach and less than that to the restaurants and shops of Praia da Luz. These are great properties for family holidays.
