Where to eat in the Algarve, Portugal
Royal Garden Chinese Restaurant in Praia da Luz
Opened in 2005, The Royal Garden Chinese Restaurant has proved instantly popular. The restaurant is situated on Rua 25 de Abril in Praia da Luz which is the road coming in from Burgau to the square above the Church.
The menu is extensive and offers all the dishes one might expect and some one wouldn't! Start with soups such as Peking Hot and Sour, Crabmeat and Shark Fin or choose from some 20 starters which include firm favourites such as pancake rolls, satays, spare ribs or the more unusual dishes of frog's legs with peppercorn, salt and garlic, fried scallops with almond or fresh squid with salt and peppercorn.
There are about 20 seafood, 20 beef, 10 duck and 30 chicken main dishes to select from. There are several "sizzling" dishes such as spicy prawns, scallops, roasted duck, chicken with ginger & onions and crispy pork Szechuan style and the Royal Garden House special of "Casserole in a clay pot" which you can choose to be beef, duck, chicken or pork. A small number of vegetarian and foo-yong/omelette dishes are also available, together with a good range of side orders. With around 150 items on the menu, there is plenty of choice for everyone. Many of the main dishes are priced around €6 to €9 rising to €18 for a few of the more exotic dishes.
There are several special set menus for 2 persons (ranging from €24 - €34) and a house speciality of a "Peking Duck" menu for 4 people, where a whole barbequed duck is served with pancakes, cucumber, spring onions and plum sauce, together with a soup to start and dessert to finish for about €100.
The restaurant is open every day from noon to 15.00 hours and 18.00 to 23.00 hours in the evening. A take away service is available ( local telephone number (00351) 282 767 239) - booking is essential during the busy holiday times but is recommended at other times too as the restaurant is proving very popular.
