O Marafado is on the EN120, Lagos to Bensafrim road. If you are approaching from Portimão on the EN125, then as soon as you leave the roundabout with the football stadium on your right and pass MacDonalds on your right, bear right onto the EN120. The restaurant is 2 minutes up the road on the left hand side and is well signposted. The view from the top is excellent with Lagos bay and the Marina in the foreground, views down the coast to past Portimão and, looking inland, over the surrounding countryside towards Monchique - plenty to look at whilst you have drink on the outside terrace.
Inside there is a bar-lounge area as well as the restaurant which specialises in Portuguese Tapas. The idea is that you order a mixture of dishes and everyone shares. The restaurant serves a wide range of homemade vegetarian, meat, fish and shellfish dishes - there really is something for everyone. We started with the mixed meat platter with bread, olives and melon & presunto. Each of the four of us in our party chose two dishes and we ordered an additional potato dish and a salad. Favourites included the goats cheese and marmalade, baked in the oven, chicken pieces in batter with a honey dressing, the hot broad bean and chorizo casserole and the pork with figs. You just order more dishes if you need them. Some beers and a bottle of the house red wine accompanied our meal. There is also a good selection of homemade desserts - our favourite was the Lemon tart.
This is a very pleasant and friendly restaurant with good service and modestly priced good food - it is a bit different and very well worth a visit.
