Only metres away from where the trawlers unload their catches, on the east bank of the River Bensafrim, you will find the Marina in Lagos.  Inaugurated in 1993 and awarded the Euromarina Anchor Award and the European Blue Flag, it has 462 moorings for yachts and boats.  Over the past ten years , more than 20,000 crews of 50 different nationalities have visited the Marina.  It's facilities are of the highest standards and all the usual services are offered, together with chandlery, bank, provisions, bar and restaurant facilities.

Along the quay side, there are a variety of shops, bars and restaurants and it is a good place to stop and relax and just watch the world go by.  There is a friendly ambiance around the place and the whole area is attractively laid out. 

Cross the lifting bridge over the river at the Marina entrance and you are on the Avenida dos Descobrimentos with a waterfront promenade along the river.  Within minutes you are in the centre of the town with the wealth of shops, restaurants, cafes and bars in the squares and streets leading into the upper town.

Meia Praia, the main and very long sandy beach is about 10 minutes walk from the Marina on the same side of the river.  The walk takes you past the railway station (Lagos is the end of the line running from Vila Real on the Spanish border through Faro) and the boat yards before opening out to the beach.  Several beach bars are dotted along the 5 km beach.  There are several smaller beaches on the western side of Lagos such as Batata and Praia Dona Ana.
