The E111 has expired and, from January 1st 2006, has been replaced by the European Health Insurance card (EHIC) instead.
Just like the E111, the EHIC entitles all UK resiidents to reduced cost (sometimes free) health care, if it becomes necessary, whilst travelling in most European countries.
The quickest way to get an EHIC is to apply online at www.dh.gov.uk/travellers and you should receive it within about 7 days.
Alternatively, you can call the EHIC application line on 0845 606 2030 and you should receive it within 10 days or pick up an application pack from your local Post Office branch. It can take 21 days for your EHIC to reach you if you apply by post so don't leave it until the last minute.
Remember, it is an addition to travel insurance, not instead of it.
