Don't forget to take your passport with you when you are changing money.
The currency for Portugal is the Euro abbreviated to EUR and denoted by the sign €. There are one hundred centimos to one euro.
Credit and Debit cards are widely accepted in shops, restaurants and petrol stations. Travellers cheques and money can be changed at a “Cambios” as well as the banks. Cambios have the advantage of longer opening hours but usually offer a less favourable rate of exchange than a bank. Banks normally charge a fee for currency exchange services.
For those clients staying in hotels, there is often a currency exchange service available at the hotel reception.
In the Western Algarve, there are banks in Lagos town centre and in Praia da Luz. Cash machines are widely available at the banks as well as the major supermarkets in Lagos, Praia da Luz and Budens. There is also a cash machine at Parque da Floresta Golf & Leisure Resort reception. A number of Cambios are available - one of the easiest to find is the one in Praca Gil Eannes - the square in the centre of Lagos.
