These Vigia resorts are all 4* and are really top quality; all have use of the facilities at Parque da Floresta, including a good discount off golf at this challenging course.

A brief History of Portugal
Dom Joao IIIIt's 1580 and Phillip II of Spain becomes Dom Phillip I of Portugal. We hear about when his maritime supremacy was chipped away, Queen Elizabeth I rejected his proposal of marriage and he failed to influence the people of England towards the Catholic faith. When he decides to act, he sends his “Spanish Armada” of war ships to sea, well…….. remind yourselves about this bit of Portuguese/Spanish history in David's latest installment.

Traditional cooking at A Eira do Mel in Vila do Bispo restaurante
Traditional cooking at A Eira do Mel in Vila do Bispo Many of you will have passed through Vila do Bispo on your way up to the west coast towards Aljezur or to Sagres and Cape St Vincent in the far southwest. This is a very Portuguese town and the administrative centre for the Camara of the same name, which stretches from Burgau to Sagres and up the west coast. A Eira do Mel is a traditional blue and white building on the Praia do Castelejo road where, specialising in local produce and slow cooking methods, we enjoyed very traditional Portuguese cooking.

A Recipe for Summer
A Recipe for Summer Peter shares a recipe for Frango Algarvio (chicken drumsticks Algarve style) which have been marinated and then roasted with celeriac and peppers. Serve Frango Algarvio with rice and a salad for a real summer dish.

Lets walk in the Algarve
Lets walk in the AlgarveThis month, Tony has written about the walk on the fabulous west coast which he and Jackie enjoyed last month. These walks usually wind down during June as it becomes too hot to comfortably walk so these will probably be the last walks until September. The month starts with a moderate walk around part of the Bravura Lake and through countryside; secondly, there is a fairly easy circular walk through the Quateira river gorge to Paderne Castle and lastly, a moderate walk through the Cape St Vincent Natural Park, combining countryside and cliff tops, starting at Salema. The June walks programme covers everything you need to know.
