Our second cruise holiday starts in Porto, in the northern part of Portugal and sails up the River Douro to Salamanca before returning to Porto. Much of the river passes through deep valleys lined with the terraced vineyards that produce the grapes for the world famous Ports produced in the region. There are some really excellent Douro red wines to try as well…………sounds like heaven to us! Click on the link for full details of the Douro cruise itinerary and take another look at the Algarve Cruise we featured in last month's newsletter. We have terrific special offers for the cruises starting 21st April where 2 people traveling together can save up to £272/person and on the 28th April, where the saving is up to £337/person.
This month we visit the Ribatejo wine region - the unique countryside of the river and meadowlands which blends at the meeting place of Estremadura and Alentejo, earning the region the noble title of “Heart of Portugal”.
Also hot off the press, a report on the generic wine tastings taking place this week in London & Edinburgh.
During Jackie & Tony's recent visit to the Algarve they walked round the salt marshes at Alvor before heading off into the town to lunch at the Restaurante Rio a Vista where they sat on the balcony overlooking the Alvor estuary and sampled the local menu turistica.
If you like to walk and would prefer to walk with others, take a look at the Portugal Walks programme. With around 4 or 5 different walks a month in the Algarve region, there is sure to be one that suits you. The walks are led by Dr Julie Statham or colleague Silvia Smeman - this month we feature the April programme of walks.
