On September 30th, Bill Hawkins, Managing Owner, hosted a presentation of his new project for a Botanical Garden and Bird Sanctuary in the extensive grounds surrounding his Monte do Casal Hotel. The guests toured the garden and lakes, the waterfall and viewing decks before sitting down to dinner. With help and advice from several experts and a forthcoming programme involving children from the local junior school in Estoi, Bill finished his address by saying that apart from his personal interest in the development of the Botanical Garden he hoped that the initiative would help inland tourism in the area as well as being enjoyed by the residents of Portugal. At the end of September, Martin was in Birmingham for a very special Portuguese wine tasting seminar and lunch hosted by ICEP & ViniPortugal and presented by the well known wine personage Robert Joseph.
