More people are travelling to Portugal this year with the industry reporting growth of 6% compared with last year and many of the family villas are now booked for the traditional summer holiday period. So, if you are thinking of going to Portugal this year, it's time to act to ensure that you get as much choice as possible.
In this month we will be taking a look at some of the wonderful indigenous white grape varieties that makes Portugal so special. Perhaps little known and not as high profile as many of the country's red varieties, which we will look at later, the wines produced offer us something different and are so appealing and great to discover for the first time! There will be some thoughts on food matching these wines too. This family run restaurant is a bit off the beaten track but well worth a visit, say friends. The “couvert” was rather a hit with Jackie and Tony being presented with olives, homemade chicken pate, homemade salmon mousse, flaming sausage slices, carrots marinaded in oil, garlic and cumin and quail eggs along with ample bread and butter.
