The Ria Formosa Natural Park is an area of about 18 hectares through the districts of Loule, Faro, Olhao, Tavira and Vila Real de Santo Antonio and encompasses 60km of coastline.  The Environmental Education Centre of Marim is situated between Olhao and Tavira and is well worth a visit.  There is a nature trail of about 3km which features representative aspects of the ecosystems of the park such as salt marshes, Salinas, dunes and pine woodlands.  Amongst the buildings is a restored and working Tidal Mill and a traditional farmhouse.  There is also a kennel specialising in the famous aquatic Portuguese Water Dogs.  Click here to read more.

Situated about half way between Praia da Luz and Burgau on the local road which runs nearest the coast, Restaurante O Malhao serves a good choice of dishes.  The house specialities are meat and fish grilled on charcoal with enough variety to suit all.  This restaurant is also popular with the locals.
